The Greatest Generation

The parents of my generation, us that are in our 60’s today, have been called the “Greatest Generation”. I agree with that statement. Our parents lived through a severe depression and fought a world war that encompassed most of the world and help win it. They came home and help build one of the greatest economies in the modern world.

So, are they blameless? Depends on what you call blame. I boil it down to one thing they did wrong and it was done with the purest of intent. They did everything under the sun to make my generation not have to suffer in the slightest what they had to suffer. It was their intention to end wars, create good jobs, provide education and in general make life comfortable. That by in large they did. Nothing wrong with that is there? Well, maybe not but when we, my generation grew up; we took it to the next step. I am afraid that in general we removed more of the things that are needed to toughen up people. We of course did it with the purest of intentions like our parents. Believe me, I am not trying to place any blame. I am just trying to work out what has happened by my observation and opinions. Of course none of this affect my children, they are all hard working and responsible adults. It’s just the others that have caused the problems. Wink, wink!!

We are a country of very hard working, fundamentally good people. I think we need to just back up slightly and return to a country of law and not emotions.
