TERRORISM
Below is a definition of Terrorism I admit I copied from another source. I thought I would look up someone’s definition after the news this morning regarding the apparent plot to blow up airliners over the Atlantic Ocean. I must admit this took me by surprise as I was settling in to believe that this type of action would lay low until at the very least the 2006 elections here in the states. Guess I was really wrong but that is certainly not the first time and I must assume not the last.Who are the persons that plotted, financed and were ready to carry out this action? The English legal system must be very “closed mouthed” about this as their ability to prosecute those in this plot would be compromised if a lot was said about who did what until they go to the actual trial. Well, I guess one could guess but let’s wait at least one more day because more will be coming out by then although some is out now naming Pakistanis that may or may not be British citizens. The next leap of faith is; are they part of any extremist Muslim group? That too is being rumored but once again, let’s wait and see.
Where is all of this going? Well to my next post which I am working on. Like I have said before I am sure it will piss everyone off. I just want everyone to look at the definition of Terrorism and try to understand my opinion.
Later…………………..
Terrorism is the intentional use of violence or the threat of violence against one or more members of a general population to generate fear, cause disruption, and ultimately to cause the authorities of a population to comply with certain political, religious, ideological, or personal demands. Terrorism is distinguished from other uses of force in that it involves the intentional targeting of persons who, unlike heads of state, members of the armed forces, and security personnel, are not direct participants in the conflict with the terrorists. Thus a "freedom fighter," an "insurgent," or a member of the armed forces may be a terrorist if and when he/she engages in an act of violence intentionally targeting a civilian population, while members of an acknowledged terrorist group defending themselves against persons trying to capture them are not, per se, committing a terrorist act.
The ultimate targets of terrorist attacks typically are not the individuals (often unarmed civilians) who are killed, injured, or taken hostage, but rather the societies to which these individuals belong. Terrorism is a type of unconventional warfare designed to weaken or supplant existing political landscapes through capitulation or acquiescence, as opposed to subversion or direct military action. The broader influence of terrorism in the modern world is often attributed to the dramatic focus of mass media in amplifying feelings of intense fear and anger.
The term is also used pejoratively to assert that the violence targets "innocent civilians," or that it is immoral, wanton, unjustified, indiscriminate, or executed "with disregard for human life." According to some definitions of terrorism used by states and governments, terrorists are actors who don't belong to any recognized armed force, or who don't adhere to their rules, and who are therefore regarded as "rogue actors." Groups that call themselves separatists, revolutionaries, guerrillas and other specific terms are often referenced vaguely and pejoratively by their enemies as terrorists.
