Why Bother?

So what does this title mean? I am talking about our, meaning most people in the US, approach to government. Everyone is all worked up about who is going to be the next president but I would bet almost no one gives a shit about who will be the next governor, state representative, mayor, city council member, county commission member, or just about any other elected official where you live.

Why is that? Cannot be bothered? Do not really care though these people have more direct influence on your life? I really feel that it may be to late when I look at what happens at the local government level. To put a personal point to this posting allow me to rant about where I live.

Since I live in a rural area the greatest influence on our day to day life is our county commission. Do they care about our day to day life? Maybe but their actions shouts very loud that this is not the case. Our commissioners have never met a developer they did not like. The county has grow in population without any thought to the base needs to live. Forget roads, schools, drainage projects, water supplies and just about everything you can think of has been put on the back burner. Why? I don't know but it smells of PAY OFF.

Just a note to remind you to get involved in your local working where you live. If not, don't bitch!
