Baghdag on the Mississippi

NEW ORLEANS AP — Three and a half years after Hurricane Katrina, the National Guard is pulling the last of its troops out of New Orleans this weekend, leaving behind a city still desperate and dangerous. Residents long distrustful of the city's police force are worried they will have to fend for themselves.

If it takes three and one half years in an American city to have the National Guard maintain protection for the citizens of that city what the hell do you think is going to happen in Baghdad? My wife and I have visited New Orleans twice and enjoyed ourselves and this report is very sad.

So what happens now? Build a fence around the city and call it a "Green Zone" for it's protection? How about the governor of Louisiana taking over the city and cleaning it up? Wow, what a concept! Something has to be done. What? When? Ever?

When will this happen to the next American city as things start to fall apart? Another whole story in it's self.
